IGENITY® — Maternal Traits
Maternal and Reproductive Traits
Reproduction is arguably the most economically important trait for cow/calf producers.1
Three analyses are available from IGENITY to help producers evaluate these economically important traits.
Heifer Pregnancy Rate is a heifer's chance at becoming pregnant over a normal breeding season,
relative to other heifers. Stayability is the chance a heifer will remain in the herd until at
least six years old, relative to other animals. Maternal Calving Ease is measured as the percentage
of unassisted births — a higher value is greater calving ease. These IGENITY profiles can be used
to make replacement heifer decisions as well as be used to select future maternal sires.
Heifer Pregnancy Rate
Higher scores from the IGENITY profile for heifer pregnancy rate mean a higher percentage of
heifers should become pregnant during the breeding season, which is measured at the first
pregnancy check. In a group of heifers with a score of 10 from IGENITY, 10.18% more of them
are expected to become pregnant than a group of heifers with a score of 1.
Stayability
The analysis for stayability from the IGENITY profile represents a female's ability to remain in the
herd until six years of age or beyond. In a group of heifers with a score of 10 from IGENITY, 23.19%
more of them are expected to stay in the herd until six years of age than a group of heifers with a
score of 1.
Maternal Calving Ease
Higher scores from the IGENITY profile for maternal calving ease mean a higher percentage of unassisted births.
A score of 10 from the IGENITY profile represents 12.93% more unassisted births than a score from
IGENITY of 1.
